About the Manufacturer (Home Appliances): JAGUAR

The history of the company began in 1949, when the first factory was built and the Maruzen Mischin Company was established. The company engaged in wholesale trade of sewing machines and spare parts.

In 1952, Maruzen launched the first zigzag sewing machine on the Japanese market. A few years later, the company began selling sewing machines worldwide in cooperation with the American trading company Sears, Roebuck & Co.

By 1961, Maruzen had become one of Japan’s largest exporters of household sewing machines. In recognition of this, the company received an award from the Japan Export Committee in 1964. That year, the number of exported sewing machines reached 354,000 units. Maruzen also partnered with Quelle (catalog sales), the British company Frister & Rossman, and the French brand Thimonnier.

In 1968, Maruzen received a second award for outstanding quality: the “Symbol of Excellence” from Sears Roebuck.

The European branch operated in Brussels (Belgium) from 1969 to 1977, then relocated to Düsseldorf (Germany). Two years later, a new factory was opened in Taiwan.

Starting in 1972, Maruzen received the “Symbol of Excellence” award five years in a row. In 1973, sewing machine exports reached an unprecedented peak—5 million units.

By 1978, exports had grown to 7 million machines per year. That same year, the company changed its name to Jaguar Sewing Machines Company.

In 1989, Jaguar changed its name again to Jaguar Co., Ltd.

In 1995, a new modern factory was opened.

In 1997, the factory received ISO 9002 quality certification.

Jaguar sells its machines on five continents. To emphasize this global reach, the company changed its name in 1999 to Jaguar International Corporation.

In 2000, Jaguar launched the world’s first sewing machine controlled by a Game Boy device: Model JN-100.

In 2004, the CLEM series of computer-controlled embroidery machines was released.

In 2005, the factory received ISO 14000 certification.
