Sewing for begginers

When purchasing any household sewing machine or overlocker, we can provide you with a beginner’s training session at our store in Vilnius. After the training, you will be able to thread the machine, set operations, perform buttonhole stitching, understand the purpose of different stitches, change presser feet, and learn how to start sewing correctly and finish fabric edges. Once you leave the store with your new sewing machine, you’ll feel confident and ready to step into the world of sewing.

A FEW IMPORTANT TIPS — IGNORING THEM MAY RESULT IN POOR STITCH QUALITY OR MACHINE MALFUNCTION:

I. High-quality cotton threads are rare.
Old, inherited threads are unsuitable — cotton deteriorates over time. Its strength weakens and consistency decreases. We strongly recommend using synthetic (100% polyester) threads. Thread thickness: 120. All modern sewing machines are designed specifically for size 120 threads.
Using quality threads ensures the longevity of your sewing machine and the highest stitch quality. Saving on thread quality is not recommended — your projects and mood will suffer as a result.

II. Before you start sewing, you must:

  1. After inserting the bobbin thread, always pull it up to the surface. Instructions on how to do this are always included in the sewing machine manual.
  2. Always place both threads under the presser foot.

  1. Place the fabric under the presser foot. Then, with one hand, hold both threads, and with the other hand, turn the handwheel until the needle pierces the fabric. Lower the presser foot to secure the fabric in place.

  1. Gently hold both threads with your hand while making the first 2–3 stitches. You can do this using the foot pedal or by manually turning the handwheel. This ensures a flawless start to the seam and prevents the threads from tangling.

By following these four steps, you will avoid shuttle jamming — this is the correct procedural sequence that must be followed.

III. If a jam occurs (only for vertical shuttles):

  • Turn off the sewing machine from the power supply.
  • Rotate the handwheel to raise the needle to its highest position.
  • Remove the extension table and open the cover.
  • Pull the retaining clips and remove the shuttle, protective ring, and bobbin.
  • Carefully clean all visible threads that may have entered the bobbin mechanism or gotten caught between parts.

STRICTLY PROHIBITED – DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SEW WITH A JAMMED MACHINE USING FORCE.
Such cases are easy to identify, and warranty repair will NOT APPLY.

IV. To sew with thick threads, you must:
Replace the needle with a thicker one. Thin needle eyes are too small for thick threads, causing them to snag and tangle. A thick needle ensures smooth feeding of thick thread.

V. If the machine creates excessive loops (bird’s nest) or tangles the thread:
Remove all threads and rethread the machine carefully, following the instructions step by step.
